There are people who make no mistakes because they never wish to do anything worth doing — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1729 - 1832)

My first fully illustrated book

In this book the star guest is the mistake, miscalculation, improvisation, confusion and carelessness, which thanks to the ingenuity and insight of their creators, became Awesome Accidents.

Written by Soledad Romero Mariño and edited by Mosquito Books. The book is originally written in Spanish and it has been translated into Catalan, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian and Chinese.

I did this project using the text provided by the author and searching for reference images to understand each accidents and find some context like the kind of space in that time, tools, machines, people clothes, etc.

Reference images for The Battery spread

Pencil sketch approved by the editorial. The text wasn’t final at this stage.

Final spread with color applied and OK texts

All project was done digitally using a Cintiq Pro. I created all the sketches in Photoshop and designed the page layout and type inDesign. Once editors approved it I applied color using a restricted color palette decided in the beginning. This allows me to maintain the same energy all along the book.

Doing this book was an amazing experience and I feel this is just the beginning of a journey through more children’s books. Stay tuned for the next!

Thanks for watching! Hope it was interesting for you :)
